hitlers triumph of the will is the number one propoganda film of all time. it invented all fancy film techniques such as camera angles and so on. many many major movies are influenced by this film such as star wars, etc..
Dear Kyla,
There are ever so many historical films that were propaganda. Almost every John Wayne film of the 1940’s was a good example. If you want an earlier one, try The Potempkin, a Russian film made during the silent era that glorified the sailors of the battleship Potempkin who were instrumental in beginning the 1917 revolution.
Movies like THE 39 STEPS, CASABLANCA, and FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT all either celebrated the war effort, showed how evil the axis powers were or encouraged civilians to try harder in their war efforts. If you can access any newsreels of the period, you will have a bonanza of examples.
Tiger Toy
Just about any film made in Germany under the ***** had propaganda. I did a 10-page paper on **** propaganda in college and movies were a big part of that paper. Sorry I can’t remember any names, but it’s a safe bet that if they were made when the ***** were in power, they contained propaganda.
The US government put out propaganda films in WWII called Know Your Enemy: Japan and another one for Germany. They basically describe the Japanese and the Germans as evil creatures who need to be dealt with to convince those Americans who weren’t sure about the war (yes there were a few).
Oh yes The Potemkin Tiger Toy above me mentions is a great example. And Triumph of the Will, also mentioned, is a good one too. The effects mentioned made it even more powerful because they help **** in the viewer. It was one of the **** films I couldn’t remember (thanks poster above, can’t see the name). There was one on the Berlin Olympics in 1936 that was a great example too, can’t remember what it was called.
Any of the recent films by Michael Moore are definitely committed to promoting his personal point of view.
The film JFK also promotes a specific explanation as to who assassinated the president (although you may not consider that an entirely historical film).
Try the movie Trainspotting it’s got some of the needle shots that I think your looking for, if so get back to me and I can give you some old movies from the late 40s early 50s.
You can respond to my response through the answer.
I have to agree that any Michael Moore film is propaganda. He holds a lot of internal anger. Even Al Gore’s, An Inconvenient Truth is propaganda. Recently it has been uncovered that Al has invested heavily in companies involved with carbon credits. He is in position to profit much from the film he has narrated. This may not be considered a propaganda film right now, but in a few years it certainly will be.
your job is not done in germany and your job is not done in japan. the german title won best academy award for documentary. they were released to the general public but were also shown to the service men going to those countries so they would do the job properly.
