What would the police do if a 14 yr old was reported for using a BitTorrent client to download films?

Most civilized countries have signed a treaty protecting the rights of films against theft like this. I’m not sure of the laws there, but in the US the parents would be held liable for the crimes and forced to pay some pretty hefty fines if caught.

The police have very little to do with such cases. you are talking civil court – being sued. Thats really not a police issue. Short of issuing a warrant, a subpoena and maybe confiscating the computer for evidence in the case, thats about it. The police wont take you to jail over it.
Regardless, with the MILLIONS of people using BitTorrent and similar type of downloading your chances of getting caught are very very slim. I wouldnt worry about it.
