The Prince by Machiavelli
Thus Spoke Zarathustra by Nietzsche
The Fall and Decline of the Roman Empire by Gibbon
Self Reliance by Emerson
NonZero by Wright
Guns, Germs, and Steel by Diamond
Like Wonderer About Much said, Unwind, by Neal Shusterman was great. It was absolutely amazing. Here’s a quick summary:
When the government outlaws terminating pregnancies, they come up with a new solution to this problem. Children between 13 and 17 can be unwound, where their body parts will be donated to those in need. This story is about three kids who are trying to fight the society that would unwind them.
Also, try The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. (It’s going to be a trilogy, but only one book is out so far)
In the future, in a place that used to be known as the U.S. every year, 24 teens are forced to participate in a fight to the death on a reality t.v. show. Only the winner lives. I loved this book. It made me cry.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. You’ll never think of WWII the same way again.
Other good books in the science fiction genre, but that still make you think, are Unwind by Neal Shusterman and Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card.
The Book Thief is amazing, though. It really does make it impossible to judge things.
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Before I Die
Chains
Newes from the Dead
They’re moving and make you think, but they’re not philosophical, political or self-improvement books. They’re still very good and worth reading.
Life of Pi is apparently very good.
And I recommend all of Ellen Hopkins’ books.
